What’s New

Homeless people are defined as people who are literally without shelter and who live “on the street”, sleeping outside in parks, alleys and abandoned buildings, as well as those relying on emergency shelters for accommodation. Those defined as “at risk” of homelessness are people who are paying too much of their income for rent, and/or living in unsafe, inadequate or insecure housing. If faced with an unexpected expense, they may be unable to make ends meet. Moving outside may be the only answer. Often, these households are one step away from homelessness!

Together we can make a difference, as we become more solution minded.

Lifeline Outreach Society’s 36th Year of Service

Since February 1988, Lifeline has been reaching out to the disenfranchised in the lower mainland with a hot meal, groceries, clothing and friendship.
The line ups have fluctuated greatly with the number of men, women and children, depending on location and concentration of individuals in that area, but no matter where we distribute the supplies, this service has been greatly valued by the recipients. On numerous occasions, we have heard the statement “This helps us make it to our next cheque” You see, not everyone
in the line up is on welfare or are dealing with addictions, some have jobs but the pay does not cover all of their basics such as rent, hydro, gas. Many have to sacrifice their food in order to pay their bills so when they find out about Lifeline’s services, it gives them hope and a way to make it literately to the next pay cheque. We have also had the joy of hearing how they appreciate coming to the “Blue Bus” not only for the supplies but for a place to find fellowship because there they are welcomed, loved on and do not feel judged. This is so important to them because in most places, they are looked down on and have experienced unpleasant reception or even endured harsh judgment and comments.

Lifeline wishes to thank everyone who has worked with us over these last 36 years whether long term or short, your involvement has made a great difference in our communities and we invite you to continue and bring others to help out in this valued ministry.

Our graditude goes to the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General for their generous contributions that has made it possible to serve hundreds of people and bring hope to desperate situations.
